How It
Began
The Young At Heart Adult Day Care Center is the dream-come-true of Mirtha
Watt, the Center’s Owner and Founder.
The Tragedy
In March of 1995, Mirtha’s husband, James Watt, suffered a cerebral
hemorrhage.
The unanimous prognosis was that he would be disabled and on drugs for the
rest of his life.
The brain injury disrupted the brain computer. James didn’t know how to
walk. His memory functions were damaged. He had lost control of his body
functions.
The Effect
Mirtha Watt’s life was turned upside-down. She
had a 20 month old daughter, a large business that needed constant
attention, and a husband that the doctors said would need medications and
extensive care for the rest of his life.
The Search
Mirtha knew, from her research during her Master’s program at Harvard,
that all conditions, whether they be physical or mental, can be corrected
or improved with the proper therapy. The keys were: knowledge of, and
access to, these therapies.
Mirtha began an intensive search for
something that would enable James to live a healthy and productive life.

Results
Her studies led her to many
new therapies and programs that were unavailable in Fresno. She
experimented with all these new techniques and procedures and the results
were fantastic.
Today, James takes no medications. He is physically healthy and
energetic, enjoys life, and is a wonderful father to their 10 year old
daughter.
Fresno’s Need
During
these trying years, Mirtha personally experienced Fresno’s need for a
program patterned after the European model of “Day Hospitals.”
She began the long process of creating an Adult Day Health Care Center.
Young At Heart
is the result.
The Mission
The
mission of the
Young At Heart Adult Day Health Care Center
is to:
-
Provide a level of day health care unmatched in any other health care
center.
